Free English and Computer Workshop for Mothers of SALT Payatas Foundation

SpiceWorx Consultancy Inc., together with Ms. Sheila Viesca, CEO of TalkShop, conducted a free workshop on Business English and Computer/Internet Skills last June 30, 2012 for the mothers of Likha Pangkabuhayan, Inc., a livelihood program under SALT Payatas Foundation, Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

SpiceWorx Consultancy Inc., together with Ms. Sheila Viesca, CEO of TalkShop, conducted a free workshop on Business English and Computer/Internet Skills last June 30, 2012 for the mothers of Likha Pangkabuhayan, Inc., a livelihood program under SALT Payatas Foundation, Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

The workshop aimed at empowering the mothers who work at Likha on basic business English in customer communications and using the computer and Internet as effective business tools.

Ms. Sheila Viesca, CEO of TalkShop, who generously dedicated her Saturday morning for this free workshop, taught the mothers of Likha on how to write proper business letters and proposals, and how to professionally present oneself and products during a business conversation with customers.

In the afternoon, Computer/Internet Skills was taught by SpiceWorx, facilitated by Mr. Ruel Abion, a 16 year veteran practitioner of computer systems. The introduction of the lesson started with some very basic skills in using the computer such as creating folders and organizing files and documents. The mothers also learned about the basics of advertising products on the internet and the selling their products using different free advertising sites on the internet.

It was a great pleasure for SpiceWorx to be able to share our expertise and knowledge to assist Likha members acquiring practical skills of using Business English and Computer / Internet in their business. All are hoping to have a second round of such workshop in the future.

(*) Likha Pangkabuhayan, Inc. is a sub-program of an NPO called Salt Payatas Foundation which aims to improve the lives of the mothers living around the dumpsite in Payatas, Quezon City, Philippines, by creating alternative source of income other than scavenging. Mothers who work at Likha produces cross-stitched embroidered products such as bath towels and hand towels using top quality cotton, book covers, button-pins, and more. Thirty percent (30%) of the profit of the Likha’s business is also shared to “Children Empowerment Program” which provides scholarship support to the Children in Payatas and Kasiglahan Villages for them to be able to have school education.

Likha’s parent organization, Salt Payatas Foundation and SpiceWorx has been collaborating since January 2011, in conducting study sessions and workshops for young Japanese professionals who undergo global business training in the Philippines to learn and think about the poverty issues in the Philippines as part of Global Human Resource Development Program organized by SpiceWorx and its partner G&S in Japan.

TalkShop is a leading provider of English training and corporate programs and has been the partner of SpiceWorx in conducting Business English seminar for Japanese professionals, as part of the Global Human Resource Development Program mentioned above.
